Maya Angelou Quotes: Marguerite Annie Johnson is the actual name of Maya Angelou. Maya was born on April 14, 1928. She was an American poet, memoirist, and civil rights activist. Angelou published seven autobiographies which focus on her childhood and adultery experiences. She holds some dozens of awards and more than 50 honorary degrees. With the publication of I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, Angelou publicly discussed aspects of her personal life. She worked with Martin Luther King Jr and Malcolm X. Also, She was active in Civil rights movement.

As a spokesperson for black people and women, she receives much respect. In addition, a defense of black culture is seen through her works. Her books center on themes such as racism, identity, family, and travel. Angelou’s successful acting career included roles in numerous plays, films, and television programs, including her appearance on the television.In 1998, She holds the record as “The first African-American woman to direct a major motion picture-Down in the Delta”.  Due to cancer, Angelou died on the morning of May 28, 2014.
